Gas/electric hybrids (often just called hybrids or HEVs) combine an internal combustion engine, an electric motor, and a battery. The electric motor provides extra power during acceleration and low-speed driving, significantly improving fuel efficiency and lowering tailpipe emissions.
Unlike plug-in hybrids (EVs) or fully electric vehicles (PHEVs) (EVs), standard hybrids cannot be plugged in to recharge. Instead, their batteries are charged automatically through regenerative braking and by the gas engine itself. This makes them an excellent choice for drivers who want exceptional fuel economy without having to worry about charging infrastructure.
