Equipped with a 5.0-liter Cummins that punches out 555 foot-pounds of torque, the Titan XD is rated to tow up to 12,300 pounds. 310 hp, 550 lb-ft of torque courtesy of CumminsTitan XD rides more smoothly and costs less than the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado 2500, Ram 2500, and Ford F-250 Super Duty, but it's more capable than the light-duty Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, and F-150. Adding the $3310 Pro-4X Convenience package (heaters for the steering wheel and four of the five seats plus leather hides all around) along with the $1100 Pro-4X Utility and Audio package (a Rockford Fosgate stereo, front and rear parking sensors, and a host of tie-downs in the cargo bed) was a sounder decision than our trim-level choice. Although the Titan XD is targeted at the slim market segment of consumers needing something in between a half-ton and a three-quarter-ton, we would likely opt for a modern half-ton pickup if we needed to haul more than 1,600 pounds regularly, or a modern three-quarter-ton pickup if we needed to tow more than six tons on a regular basis.
