The 2008 BMW M3 Convertible 2D (E93 generation) marks a high-water mark for BMW M division engineering, serving as the first and only generation of the M3 powered by a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine and the first to feature a retractable hardtop. Drive torque passes through an M Variable Differential Lock capable of delivering up to 100% lock to the wheel with traction. Supported by an all-aluminum double-pivot front axle, 5-link rear suspension, available Electronic Damping Control (EDC), dynamic rack-and-pinion steering, and 4-wheel cross-drilled compound ventilated disc brakes, the 4,145-lb M3 Convertible accelerates from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds (M-DCT) with an electronically limited top speed of 155 MPH.
On the exterior, the 2008 M3 Convertible displays aggressive M design elements, including a distinctive front bumper with large air intakes, a sculpted aluminum powerdome hood with dual air vents, flared wheel arches, signature M side gills with integrated turn signals, aerodynamic side mirrors, and quad round chrome exhaust tailpipes. The hallmark feature is its three-piece electro-hydraulic retractable aluminum hardtop, which lowers or raises at the press of a button in approximately 22 seconds.
