1978 Chevrolet K10 Custom Deluxe Stepside Short Bed Pickup The model year 1960 brought the Chevrolet pickup into the modern era with its C/K series lineup. The C designation identified two wheel drive pickups, and the K identified 4X4s. The most common pickup was the C10, a half ton truck with a 6.5 or 8 foot cargo box. The C/K series trucks remained essentially the same vehicle during a series of conservative redesigns, until 1997, when the 1998 Silverado replaced it. In 1978, trim packages included Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, Cheyenne, and Silverado, each building on the former with more features. Any time we have a lifted square body with bed bars and rally lights, we're drawn to make Fall Guy references, a mediocre TV series from the 80's that starred a similar rig that people are still talking about. Exterior Like Colt's truck from the show, this is a multi-colored version, but the colors are a bit less organized with a blue cab and front clip, and true patina coverage on the bed and tailgate which has remnants of Medium Blue oneness. Up front, LED lights give this 48 year old a slight modern stare while a blue bug guard brings it right back to the era correct and a red Superman hood ornament accentuates the already masculine features. A lighted visor looms over the windshield and KC Hilites over the cab include smiley face covers. External tail lights upstage the set frenched into the rear fenders and the bed is covered by a rubber mat over weathered wood planks. The entire truck has varying levels of real deal patina, varying shades of paint, some surface rust, real rust, body filler, scratches, chips and rough surfaces. The newer 15-inch wheels shine bright. Interior Blue plastic door cards are in good shape and may be newer than the rest of the truck, while the front is adorned with a woven, multi-colored cover. The steering wheel fronts a standard instrument cluster behind textured black plastic and an AM/FM radio is included. A dark dash pad contrasts with the blue lower dash and the floor is covered by textured black rubber and Superman weather mats. The man of steel makes another appearance on each of the floor mounted shifters; one for gears, the other for range selection. In the back, a slide rear window provides air flow and access to the bed, or at least an opening to throw stuff back there! Drivetrain Under the weathered hood, we find driver quality conditions of course, and a 454ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a 4-speed manual transmission that routes power to a 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front differential. The transmission was rebuilt in 2025 and according to our consignor, has less than 200 miles on it. Our K10 also has power brakes and power steering that includes a newer box and stabilizer as stated by our consignor. Undercarriage Patina is found on the underside as well with typical surface rust and age, but no invasive rust. Here, the dual exhaust runs through FlowMaster muffler and power brakes are divided as front disc and rear drum. Suspension includes leaf springs front and rear. Drive-Ability Up, up and away we went, scaling the 4 inch lift of the truck, grunting as we went because unlike Clark Kent, we can't leap tall buildings in a single bound. Meanwhile, we make our way around the test loop to find a fine running truck with good visibility and all functions working. We note the throwout bearing is making some noise, but that's our only demerit on the list. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. There was a time when patina was the kryptonite to truck buyers. The thought of a full paint job over a semi rusted exterior made you feel weak.
