This former commuter car is now a competition car and represents the first Comet from the 70's to grace our halls and very likely, a rare surviving example. Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.   Exterior Unless you're thinking Ford Maverick, there's really no confusing the Comet with any other car. Even as it borrowed its tail lights from the Cyclone for an aggressive tail, the front end remains pleasingly pedestrian with single round headlights and on this car, bumper delete means unobstructed airflow to the radiator. In profile, you may be reminded of the Funny Car Revell model you built as a kid, with a snorkel hood scoop up front and big rear tires creating a defined rake on the 14-inch Magnum 500 wheels. There's full two stage Silver Metallic monochromatic coverage on the car, not even contrasted by window frames as both the front and rear are missing. Imperfections in the paint include orange peel, inclusions, rough surfaces in the drip rails, scratches in the rear quarter plexiglass, filler in places and a crack, and clear runs and paint runs. Interior It's race ready, barren on the inside beginning with aluminum panels in place of what would have come from the factory. A single racing bucket seat is inside and not much else behind it or to the side. The sport steering wheel fronts a gaugeless dashboard which only holds three toggle switches. On the transmission hump is a B&M shifter in a fabricated box. The headliner is still in place and still has the hooks for your drycleaning or church jacket. The trunk lacks a floor but braced in is a fuel cell and battery box. Drivetrain A beefy looking 302ci V8 is under the hood with a Demon 4-barrel carburetor and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to the Ford 8 in back. Lots of polished parts and purple sidewalls make this an impressive engine bay. Headers are on board. Undercarriage Surface rust prevails underneath and mostly dry conditions are found on the driver quality underside where the headers represent the entire unrestricted exhaust system. There is no catalytic converter as a result. Disc brakes are up front and drums are in back while suspension is the standard coil spring front and leaf spring rear. Drive-Ability Yes, it's loud. No, you probably won't be picking up your dry cleaning in this car. The single seat locks you in and the 302 delivers good power, but we baby this thing because we are on 33 year old tires. Not many functions to check out, but everything that is here works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here's a blank slate based on a fairly rare car that could, with some TLC, return to the track. It's not roll cage territory yet, but with the right pieces of the puzzle, this could be a sweet little project aiming for 10 second runs.
