09/22/26 This 1969 Nova L-78 is currently in for service, and detailing . With a sharp redesign for 1968, Chevrolet's "Chevy II" Nova took on more of a junior muscle car look with its kicked-up rear quarter panels and overall beefier stance. Of course, V8 power was available, ranging from 307 to 396 cubic inches. Little wonder that this generation, produced from 1968 through 1972, is a favorite among muscle car enthusiasts. On offer here is the top dog – a “real deal” 1969 Nova SS 396 with the rare (5,262 made) and most powerful "L78" version of the 396 V8 that was conservatively rated at 375 horsepower. This is one of the nicest nearly all-original examples we’ve ever seen. It was featured in a magazine, has had just one caring owner since 1998 and has traveled less than 34,000 miles since leaving the factory. Looks over the body and you'll find it's straight and solid as can be. The paint is about 70 percent original, the chrome and stainless-steel trim still shine brightly and that Burgundy hue is topped with a Black vinyl roof. The color-matched wheels feature "dog dish" hubcaps wrapped in modern BF Goodrich Radial T/As. The interior of this Nova SS is 100% original and features a bench seat with that factory Muncie shifter taking center stage on the transmission hump. An old-school aftermarket audio system features an 8-track player. Note that a complete set of uncut door panels, quarter trim panels and rear shelf panel accompanies the car. Under the SS’ hood is that original, numbers-matching “L78” 396 V8 and it’s matched to the original, numbers-matching 4-speed gearbox to boost the fun factor big time. That Muncie M21 transmission sends the power to the 12-bolt Positraction rear end. Power front disc brakes and manual steering add to the enjoyment of piloting this potent Nova. From front to back and top to bottom this rare, 1970 Nova SS 396 L78 must be seen to be believed.
