1948 Ford F1 Pickup In January 1948, a new era began at the Ford Motor Company with the release of an all new line of trucks that Ford dubbed the F-Series. This new series, which Ford promoted as its Bonus Built Line covered a wide range of models with different cab and chassis combinations. The line started out with light duty 1/2 ton rated pickup trucks and ran all the way up to the extra heavy duty, three ton rated F-8. These trucks used a completely redesigned cab with all new front end sheet metal and in a departure from previous practice, the same cab served both conventional and cab over engine models. For consignment, a 1948 Ford F1 pickup showing 4,015 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Please Check With Your Country, State, Provincial, Or Local DMV For Proper Titling Procedures ** Exterior A nice change of course from our usual red, white, blue and black trucks is this stunning two stage Mandarin Orange Metallic that courses over every curve of this curvaceous pickup with an abundance of pinstripe flourishes and stylized flames with feathered wisps over the hood and front fenders. The headlights are set more inboard on the '48 and fit in a contoured cove that features a bold body colored grille of horizontal bars, polished inlets front the rising hood and the bumper delete factor creates a smooth presentation. A smaller rear window overlooks a show worthy bed of oak planks and stainless bed rails. 16-inch chromed steel wheels with 70 series white walls maintains a retro look but flush taillights on the roll pan bring it back to modern times. Imperfections include small chips, bubbles, inclusions, filler pocks, some rock spray, and some scratches.  Interior Sure, black would work inside an orange truck but of course the saddle works just as well and is found first on the leather of the split bench and not stopping short in covering the armrest too. The doors themselves are painted to match the exterior, and that continues onto the dashboard where the instruments reside in a polished trim plate with VDO white faced gauges behind a leather wrapped banjo steering wheel, and everything presents as clean and show worthy. Even the steering column is attractive and provides a tilt function via a billet stalk. A center dash grille also complements the metallic paint behind it, a Lokar shifter rises from the floor which is covered in tan carpet, and an AM/FM/Bluetooth radio is on board. Smooth surfaces cover the ceiling and rear wall to complete the clean presentation.  Drivetrain The next act of this show happens in the engine bay, where we find a highly polished 350ci V8 with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, all good for 260 horsepower according to our consignor. It's mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with a new torque converter, sending power to the Ford 9 rear and 3.73 gears. Headers, power brakes, and power steering is on board and of course, the built Ford runs on a 12 volt system. Undercarriage We find clean surfaces underneath and a rust free environment, other than some minor surface rust. Noted is some minor patchwork but everything is sealed up tight. Dual exhaust runs from the headers, through stainless glasspack style mufflers, and then turns East and West to exit to the sides. The power brakes are split between front disc and rear drum and suspension includes a Mustang II front end and leaf springs in the back.  Drive-Ability The clean and comfortable cabin is a great place to be, especially when this classic ride gets going. The 350 provides good power and the lowered profile of the truck means the center of gravity makes for better handling than when it was new, and the Mustang II fron
