1937 Ford 85 Deluxe Coupe Ford is making history in 1937 by offering a choice of two V-type 8 cylinder engine sizes in the same big modern car. They give you top performance or top economy, according to your needs. The 85-horespower engine provides flashing power and pick-up at low prices, plus greater fuel economy than ever. The 60 horsepower engine, first developed for Europe, delivers smooth V8 performance and more miles per gallon than any Ford ever built. From a 1937 print ad. For consignment, a 1937 Ford 85 Deluxe coupe with a title verified 23,231 actual miles. The first question new stewards of '37 Fords get is which engine? But no need here as this street rod now packs a 302ci V8 and no doubt, putting out more than 85 horsepower! Exterior Here's a strikingly beautiful rod that shines bright with two stage Lightning Blue paint and icy smooth panels made smoother by the removal of emblems, the shaving of door handles, and the Frenching of the tail lights. The forward cant of the C-pillar, the slight rake to the stance, the grille forward design all make this car look like it's moving while standing still. The body hunkers down over showy Foose wheels, 17's in front, 20's in back, wrapped in staggered sized ZR rated 45 series tires with an early 2019 date code. The waistline is accentuated by a nice bit of stainless that runs end to end and delineates where the chopped top begins. Imperfections include numerous little chips throughout, pitting on the chrome wheels, cracking paint on the rocker, a sizable blemish on the rear quarter, and some random scratches. Interior Virtually any color would work with this blue on the inside, and our builder chose gray as the inner palette, beginning on the door panels where cloth and carpet soften the sides and cloth buckets seats with velour bolsters occupy the cabin. It's monochromatically gray up front too where the steering fronts a clean dashboard and its row of Speedhut white gauges. A custom center console houses an AM/FM/CD radio, A/C knobs, and eventually, the QuickSilver shifter wearing a gray boot. Plush gray carpet below is mirrored by the velour headliner above and it's all in great shape. Attention was also given to the trunk that is completely finished with gray carpet. Drivetrain Fitting nicely in the engine compartment is a clean 302ci V8, fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor and mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission. Out back, it's a Ford 9 axle that accepts the spin and horsepower from the driveshaft. Headers, power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning are on board and the car, of course, runs on a 12 volt system. Undercarriage Impressively clean underneath with lots of painted and polished parts. The dual exhaust runs through FlowMaster mufflers and exits discreetly behind the rear apron. Brakes are here as power disc up front and power drum in back while suspension includes a Mustang II front end with coil over and a 4 link with coilovers in back. Drive-Ability A beautiful machine that runs well too? Yes! Not to mention a comfortable interior, compact and easy to cool on hot days. If you get tired of listening to that pleasing exhaust note, you can crank the tunes of your choice! After careful analysis, we determine that all functions on this nice build work as intended.
