1929 Ford Model A Standard Coupe By a wide margin, Ford Model A's are the oldest cars with a large following. There are chapters of the Model A Ford Club of America in every state and internationally in places like New Zealand and Sweden! There's a chapter in the little college town of Cedar City, Utah, (population 40,000), and another one in the next town over!  All this to say these are still wildly popular and important cars and while we don't claim to sell as many as Henry Ford, we have seen our share of Model A's.   For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A Standard coupe showing 258 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. In 1929, there were no less than 24 body styles available for the Model A with the Standard Tudor sedan making up the largest share of sales. This example retains its numbers matching engine.  Exterior You simply can't go wrong with classic Black and the single stage cover here looks great at distance. It also creates a monochromatic look given the fenders and running boards were almost always black. Fantastic contrast is offered by the 21-inch wire wheels in a bright yellow and that includes the spare in back, covered by a tan vinyl jacket. Up front, a Messko thermometer tops the polished radiator shell, and a ribbon bumper also leads the car with reflective metal. Stepping closer, we note some imperfections that include chipped paint throughout, cracking paint, rock chips, paint run, edgewear, scratches, scuffs, and lightly pitted metal.  Interior Tan cloth door shows some age and staining and one pleated pocket has a tear. Gray cloth is used on the bench seat and present nicely with some light staining and the black grain vinyl on the rumble seat opens up to show in good condition.  Our black steering wheel fronts a surprising yellow painted dash that houses the central instrument cluster and ignition port with polished faceplate. The rubberized coating on the floor remains in good condition and an egg-shaped shifter handle tops the unit that rises from the floor. Up top, the mohair headliner is in good condition and the rear view mirror has an embedded clock which had to feel fancy in 1929! Drivetrain Behind the louvered engine covers is the numbers matching 201ci inline four cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor and 40 horsepower. It's mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with a new clutch, and power is sent to the rear axle with 3.78 gears. The red block and yellow firewall make for a visually vibrant engine compartment. Undercarriage Red shock absorbers add some color to the underside along with the inside of the yellow wheels. Here you'll find juice drum brakes on all four wheels and transverse leaf springs at both ends. Exhaust consists of a single unit through a stock style muffler. The underside presents cleanly with some typical residual oil on the pan and rear differential.  Drive-Ability Nearly 100 years old, this Model A takes us around the test loop on what has to be one of thousands of rides it's provided. All systems go with the exception of the wiper. The horn is a bit lackluster, and the car pulls right on braking. Beyond these things, all functions work as they should and we suspect with the right care, this one will be running in 2126! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.   Here's a nice driver quality Model A that is ideal for tooling around town or rolling in the local parade.  It's also a fine candidate if restoration is you bailiwick and desire.  It's a surviving piece of American history, a commodity we cannot afford to lose!
